Red Planet
Hollywood has thrown millions of dollars in special effects at a lame mission-to-Mars script and produced yet another lame mission-to-Mars movie. In this sort of 2050: A Space Monotony, Earth has become irreversibly polluted, so six scientist-technicians are sent to the neighboring desert-like planet to check on an algae-growing project that would make life in space fit for humans. A crash landing, a malfunctioning canine-like robot and insect-like space creatures provide only brief relief from the film’s painfully stilted voice-over narration and dull dialogue. A Stupid Space Trick Award goes to a buck naked Carrie-Anne Moss for telling a leering Val Kilmer to think of her as a sister. Directed by Antony Hoffman.
