Real 3-D wonderland

Tim Burton has nothing on Gabriel Paolieri. The Sacramento artist may not make millions of dollars remaking (and, according to SN&R’s Kim Brown, ruining) favorite childhood movies, but he has accomplished something Burton failed to do. Paolieri crafted a real 3-D version of Alice in Wonderland. His whimsical papier-mâché characters bring beloved characters such as the hookah-smoking Caterpillar and White Rabbit into the real world, more than 3-D glasses with amber and blue filters ever could. Paolieri’s papier-mâché sculptures resembling characters from both Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass will show in the art exhibition Down the Rabbit Hole at Blue Moon Gallery through May 1.
Down the Rabbit Hole will show noon to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday through May 1. Blue Moon Gallery, 2353 Albatross Way; (916) 920-2444; www.bluemoongallerysacto.com.
