Ready to roast

Temple Coffee's Midtown location (2829 S Street) has expanded to include a warehouse and “Roasterie” next door (2827 S Street). It opens with an all-day celebration on Saturday, November 16, featuring coffee classes (where visitors can learn about sourcing, roasting, cupping and brewing the caffeinated stuff), a latte art competition, and a party with live music, drinks and food. In October, Temple earned high marks for its Sumatra Blue Batak Peaberry (94 points out of 100), Panama Los Lajones Estate Lot 14 (92 points) and Costa Rica Sonora Estate Honey Valencia (92 points) roasts in Coffee Review magazine. Last month, the coffee shop—which describes itself as a “quality-focused retail and wholesale roaster”—also earned a Snail of Approval from Slow Food Sacramento, the local branch of an international grassroots organization dedicated to high-quality, sustainable foods. Saturday's celebration is free and happens from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. For more information, call (916) 454-1282, or visit www.templecoffee.com.
