And though this does seem to be a trend, information technology (IT) experts are looking past low-cost Indian subcontinent labor to the next wave—at the Silicon zoo. Primate Programming Inc. (PPI) is a Des Moines, Iowa-based startup with an intriguing idea: If 100 monkeys, typing furiously, will come up with a Shakespearean sonnet eventually, then how many primates will it take to write code? PPI’s chimpanzee, gorilla, orangutan and baboon programmers promise that they can do the equivalent work of any Bangalore-based IT team—at a substantial savings for your corporation. Bottom line? These primates mean business.
