A new theatrical venture—featuring several familiar names—launches this month. The Bike City Theatre Company will stage its first production, Gutenberg! The Musical! as a “pop-up show” in breweries and other non-traditional venues in Davis.
The show features two actors playing multiple roles wearing distinctive hats (Kyle Stoner, Romeo in Davis Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet last year) and Kevin Gish (recently in the Sacramento Theatre Company’s Macbeth.) They will be accompanied by pianist Alicia Hunt (who gave a stellar performance in the one-woman show Grounded at the B Street Theatre several years ago). Bike City Theatre’s organizer J.R. Yancher (Mr. Darcy in Capital Stage’s Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberly) will direct. The company will be focusing on doing newer plays, selected by the company members (who are mostly in their 20s and 30s).
A drama akin to the shows presented on the B3 Stage at the theater’s old location: Funny, yes, but thought-provoking.
