Plane fun

Looking for some cheap entertainment with family in town? Grab the nearest kid, or kid at heart, and head to the Sacramento Executive Airport (Freeport Boulevard and Blair Avenue). There you’ll find Aviators Restaurant up a short flight of stairs, overlooking the three runways. Park yourself for some breakfast or lunch (dinner Friday and Saturday only), and watch the planes take off and land. It’s oddly soothing, and you can’t go wrong ordering the grilled turkey with green chilies and a stack of hot fries. Enjoy the airplane models swinging from the ceiling and endless glasses of iced tea. The cool, mid-50s terminal is where you’ll find the restaurant. Its midweek serenity is a welcome respite for holiday travelers. Get in early for lunch, though. It fills up quickly around noon. You can even book a room for a banquet. Just call (916) 424-1728.
