Pink
I’m Not Dead
Pink’s fourth CD opens with the funny “Stupid Girls”—a danceable putdown of moronic pretty girls like Jessica, Paris, the Olsen twins, et. al. “I’m so glad that I’ll never fit in,” Pink sings. “That will never be me.” The most scathing song is “Dear Mr. President.” “How do you sleep at night?” she cries. “What kind of father would take his daughter’s rights away? / What kind of father might hate his own daughter if she were gay? … You’ve come a long way from whiskey and cocaine.” Finally a new protest song! It’s quite a contrast to the driving arena rock of “Cuz I Can” in which Pink defies listeners to challenge her “life of sin.” “I don’t give a damn / I don’t play by your rules / I make my own.” Pink knows what she wants and is going to take it. Take the ride with her and enjoy.
