Custom pizza, Federalist Public House
Federalist Public House's menu boasts many specialties, but we recommend the custom option, which features a thin Neopolitan-styled crust with a choice of toppings, starting at $2 each. We went with a green-pesto sauce pizza ($7) and added a potato hash ($2), caramelized onion ($2) and fresh mozzarella ($3). The resulting pie was savory, accentuated with just the right touch of sweetness from the slow-cooked onions. Paired with the pub's simple mixed-green salad ($9), dressed in its delicious chili, fig and shallot vinaigrette; and a couple of mason jars' worth of saison, it made for the perfect spring supper. 2009 Matsui Alley, (916) 661-6134, http://federalistpublichouse.com.
