Perfect Storm, The
As of mid-July, this is the best movie of the summer season. Based on a true story, it chronicles the last voyage of the Andrea Gail, a swordfishing ship that unfortunately sailed into the collision of three storm systems back in 1991. George Clooney, in a remarkable performance, portrays Capt. Billy Tyne, who sails his crew into the storm thinking it’ll be no big deal, and he couldn’t be more wrong. Mark Wahlberg is superb as rookie fisherman Bobby Shatford, and John C. Reilly is his usual excellent self as a grumpy, seasoned sailor. The storm is a technical marvel, the single-best depiction of mother nature at her worst ever put to screen.
