Perfect pizza
I usually disregard the processed, frozen-food grub at grocery stores—beyond the pints of sorbet, anyway. But at Whole Foods (4315 Arden Way), I noticed a new product: Tofurky pizza with Daiya nondairy cheese. Flashbacks of heating up Tony’s frozen pizza in my latchkey-kid (and omnivorous) days ensued, followed by recent memories of the most delicious vegan pizza in town: Upon request, OneSpeed (4818 Folsom Boulevard) happily obliges to make a meat-, egg- and dairy-free pie with fantastic sauce and vegetables. Though, sadly, for frozen-food aficionados, an ice-cold cardboard box is not included.
Paul Watson of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and Animal Planet’s Whale Wars puts his life on the line to stop illegal whaling, as in Peter Heller’s The Whale Warriors, and only vegan fare on his ship’s tables.
