Peachy keen

Back in the '90s, in their quirky Grammy-nominated alternative-rock hit “Peaches,” the Seattle band Presidents of the United States of America conjured a world with “millions of peaches / peaches for free.” That fantasy's never quite come to fruition, but a few local farmers markets are at least getting a peach-flavored twist this week thanks to the Peach Festival (www.bemoneysmartusa.org/#!peach-festival/c195t). The roving festival actually kicked off last Saturday in Carmichael Park, but it'll continue this weekend at the Folsom Farmers Market (8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, at 915 Sutter Street in Folsom) and the Land Park Farmers Market (9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, at 4001 21st Street). The festivities include a peach-eating contest, a pie contest, plenty of peach-flavored foods, canning and cooking demonstrations and stuff for kids, like face painting, crafts and games.
