Paul Larson

Los Angeles-based indie rockers the Minor Canon were named by the Los Angeles Times as one of the top “10 to watch in 2007.” For those yet to be exposed to their dreamy brand of melodic-pop rock, we suggest you catch them live before the year comes to an end. Luckily, the band will make the trek north for a show at the Press Club this Monday. The band’s vocalist/guitarist Paul Larson (also of Strictly Ballroom, Dntel and Athalia) compiled this week’s Playlist. Notice how he included a sixth track—sneaky, sneaky.

1. “I’ll Believe in Anything”
by Wolf Parade (from Apologies to the Queen Mary)

2. “In the Mouth a Desert”
by Pavement (from Slanted and Enchanted)

3. “Happiness is a Warm Gun”
by the Beatles (from The White Album)

4. “Car”
by Built to Spill (from There’s Nothing Wrong with Love)

5. “I’ve Got Dreams to Remember”
by Otis Redding (from Dreams to Remember: The Otis Redding Anthology)

6. “The Straight and the Narrow”
by Spiritualized (from Let it Come Down)
