Papa’s Culture got some brand-new bags
Jeez. We were all set to blather on about the Saturday night True Love in Exile series, which reportedly will be taking place at Body Tribe, at 920 21st Street, in the wake of the True Love Coffeehouse’s closing last month. But that series’ lineup wasn’t finalized at press time. However, a Friday night (September 10) CD-release party for Opal Book Club—a Bay Area trio featuring once-local drummer Mike Urbano and Papa’s Culture alumnus E. Blake Davis—is on the boards at Old Ironsides, 1901 10th Street, with Seventy (featuring Papa’s Culture alumnus Harley White) and Steve Taylor. The 9 p.m. show will set you back $7. At the same venue, the same start time and the same cover, but on the following night (Saturday, September 11), you can see Starboard Bough, 99 Tales and Arrested in Mayberry. And if that ain’t your cuppa, check out wunderkind songwriter Christopher Fairman & Friends at the Studio Theatre, 1028 R Street, at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, September 15. Unlike Old I, it’s all-ages, with a $15 cover charge. Opening is Larry Tagg, who once played with the aforementioned Urbano in Bourgeois Tagg.
