On the side of the gods
There should be a little mutineer in all of us, and KOLT Run Creations brings French playwright Jean Anouilh’s rebellious Antigone to life with a flawless execution of a brilliant script. The stage glistens with real sweat and ruled poise. Antigone (Kelley Ogden), daughter of the dead King Oedipus, decides her own fate after her uncle, King Creon (Patrick Murphy) decrees that her brother should remain unburied—a blasphemy—due to his opposition in a civil war. Ogden shines as the tragic heroine, and Murphy illuminates the stage with his jaded—if sage—political advice. A dark, dungeonlike stage provides the perfect setting for this infamous tragedy, and the supporting cast is spot-on. Directed by Lisa Thew, with scenic design by Nastassya Ferns, costumes by Jessica Minnihan, and metalwork by local artist Kristen Hoard.
