On a golden afternoon
These are the last days of Indian summer. The sun sets earlier each day, but the breeze is still warm. Take advantage of the golden afternoons of autumn with a trip to the country. Visit wineries, hike foothill trails, or bring the family to Sunday’s Animal October Fest sponsored by Pet Gazette. The festival includes a pumpkin patch, an animal costume contest, hayrides, carnival games, a dog park, a petting zoo and a traditional blessing of the animals. Dogs, cats, rabbits and reptiles of all faiths are invited to participate in the blessing, a ritual that honors our animal companions and the memory of St. Francis of Assisi. Admission is free, but animals must be leashed or in a carrier. The event will be held from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. at 7535 Ridgeview Lane in Penryn, off Interstate 80. Call (916) 663-2841 or visit www.PetGazette.org for info.
