O Brother, Where Art Thou?
George Clooney has taken home a well-deserved Golden Globe for his comic performance in the latest brilliant masterpiece by the Coen Brothers. Clooney plays a prison escapee, who, with the help of two accomplices (John Turturro and Tim Blake Nelson), goes in search of buried treasure and records a hit record along the way. Ingeniously based on
The Odyssey, the film is a platform for the Coens to create such moments as the KKK in a big dance number and John Goodman kicking ass as a one-eyed Bible salesman (a reference to the mythic Cyclops). One of the most beautiful films of 2000, and one of the most beautiful and funny films created by the Coens. Great music, including Clooney’s enjoyable lip-synch of “Man of Constant Sorrow.” Just wait till you see Clooney dance.
