Now leaving childhood?

The Walkmen, looking like what a band is supposed to look like.

The Walkmen, looking like what a band is supposed to look like.

Ever think they play better music on car commercials than you hear on the radio? Mitsubishi has used tunes by the Flaming Lips and Dirty Vegas (we won’t mention Barenaked Ladies), and Volkswagen has run ads with Nick Drake and Spiritualized. Even General Motors’ Saturn division featured “We’ve Been Had,” a circa-2002 song by New York-by-way-of-Washington-D.C. band the Walkmen, in its “Now Leaving Childhood” campaign for the Saturn Ion. The Walkmen, containing three members from the band Jonathan Fire*Eater, have a new album now, Bows & Arrows, on the Record Collection label, and they’re rolling into town Saturday, February 14, to play at The Boardwalk. The Boardwalk’s at 9426 Greenback Lane in Orangevale; the show starts at 9:30 p.m.; admission is $10; and also on the bill are Weird War, Pepper, Mister Metaphor and the Dining Room Romance.
