Not just for rich foodies
Farm-to-Fork University
There may be some truth to the sentiment that eating “organic” or meals marketed as “farm to fork” might just be for rich people. Heck, growing a single tomato plant is time-consuming, and the start-up costs (planter, soil, fertilizer, trellis, rope, hose, hose nozzle) aren't exactly cheap, either—though the long-term payoff is arguably cost-effective. Nevertheless, this Farm-to-Fork University event—sponsored by the California Restaurant Association and featuring a discussion with restaurant owners, government officials and local food purveyors—is completely free. Just register online. Free, 9 a.m. on Monday, August 11; at 1425 C Street; www.calrest.org.
