Next train to Hicksville

As the stringbender behind Dan Hicks & His Hot Licks, Maria Muldaur and some other fine acts, John Girton knows how to work the spaces between the notes to make the whole package swing. In January, Girton underwent back surgery, not anyone’s idea of a good time. Now that spring has sprung, some friends of his, including Hicks, Joe Craven, Harmonious Combustion, the Christmas Guys and others, figured they might help him get going on the mend and swinging again by staging a tribute-slash-benefit concert. That show, at which Girton will also perform, will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 7, at the Center for the Arts, 314 Main St. in Grass Valley. A $20 donation will get you in.
