Newman’s Own clone

Can something as ordinary as ordering office supplies change the world?

It can if the retailer is Give Something Back, an independent office-supply company modeled after do-gooders Newman’s Own. A delivery-based service providing things like paper products, printers and even office furniture to companies large and small throughout California, GSB has donated a total of $500,000 to Sacramento nonprofits and a total of $3 million statewide.

On April 9, the company will celebrate a decade of service in Sacramento by announcing $60,000 in donations from its 2006 profits to 26 area charities, including Senior Gleaners, St. John’s Shelter for Women and Children, the Sacramento SPCA and the Child Abuse Prevention Council.

In 2006 alone, GSB posted $24.7 million in revenues and gave back a total of $428,000 in profits.

“It’s really empowering to work in an organization whose sole focus at the end of the day is to make the community a better place,” said Jonathan Carlson, manager for the store’s Sacramento operation. “In a world where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, that’s a pretty cool thing.”
