New stand

Local organic production doesn’t get more local than Soil Born Farms Urban Agriculture Project; for years they’ve farmed a tiny patch within Sacramento’s city limits, and now they’ve expanded to a comparatively sprawling 5-acre farm along the American River in Rancho Cordova. Their new farm stand at the Rancho Cordova site (2140 Chase Drive) is open this weekend—accessible not only by driving, but also by bike along the American River Parkway. What better way to celebrate spring than to go for a bike ride by the river and return home with a basket full of fresh produce? Vegetables will come from Soil Born’s own farm, and they’ll offer fruit from other area farmers as well. A sampling of the offerings: tomatoes, peppers, basil, lettuces, chard, radishes, garlic, cherries, strawberries and more. The stand recently celebrated its grand opening, now open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday (www.soilborn.org).
