R5 Records may be a new business, but the legacy of music culture born from its Broadway location is rich. So it wasn’t hard to convince visual artist Shaun Turner, who spends his time between Sacramento and New York City as part of the artist collective Trust Your Struggle, that he should paint a mural on its outer walls. “It’s a landmark and I knew he’d be stoked to do it,” said Ken Fury of the Sacramento Pyrate Punx, who helped organize the project. If Turner’s last Trust Your Struggle project—the floor-to-ceiling mural in Sol Collective gallery’s Life, Death and Rebirth exhibit—is any indication, the R5 mural by Turner and his artist pal Daniel Osterhoff will be vibrant. Check it out for yourself at the Sacramento Pyrate Punx’s one-year-anniversary shindig, featuring music by Crucial Cause, Uncut: Hunks, No Admission and Rat Damage. 7 p.m. Friday at R5 Records, 2500 16th Street; (916) 441-2500. The event benefits Sol Collective.
