Nature calls

Guerrilla bird watching at its finest.
Nature lovers have two chances to get off their butts this week and enjoy the great outdoors. And for free. Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge will host a guided canoe and kayak on Lower Beach Lake Saturday, June 26, at 9 a.m. Participants will see river otters, beavers, pond turtles and more. Bring a canoe or kayak and floatation device. There also will be a seasonal wetland hike at the same time. A docent will lead hikers along a 2-mile roundtrip trail in the wetlands to view varieties of birds. Bring binoculars and field guides.
