Natural control
JayJay presents sculptures by Trent Burkett
Second Saturday reception: February 14, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Through March 28.
Hours: Wednesday to Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; or by appointment.
Even though Trent Burkett mostly uses organic, natural materials such as stone, clay and wood in his sculptures, there is a calculated application of order and control in his construction and presentation. But these pair well for Burkett, like sweet and sour. His pairings can be unexpected—a teacup buried in pieces of slate like an old artifact, for example—but ultimately result in an intriguing opportunity for visual excavation.
Kara Maria's paintings at B. Sakata Garo are complicated and electric.
