National day of action
Saturday, November 3rd marks Step it Up’s National Day of Climate Action and Sacramento will participate with a Polar Bear Protest held on the steps of the Capitol from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Activists have asked presidential candidates to join the event and address three key demands: They want the government to create more green jobs, cut carbon emissions 80 percent by 2050 and place a moratorium on new coal-fired power plants. For Sacramento’s protest, organizer Vina Guzman wants to draw attention to the world’s shrinking polar bear population and is asking that attendees wear white sweats, black gloves or other items to convey the look of a polar bear, but really she said, anything goes. It’s more important that people show up. For more information see www.stepitup2007.org.
