Mysteries of Egypt
National Geographic’s first IMAX production is a visually spectacular, educational expedition into ancient Egypt. Omar Sharif plays an elderly gentleman who tries to convince his granddaughter (Gulliver’s Travels’ Kate Maberly) that The Land of the Pharaohs has much more to offer than just the Curse of the Mummy. He gives us a detailed history lesson that includes re-enactments of the building of the pyramids, the burial of King Tutankhamun and the persistence of archaeologist Howard Cater (Timothy Davies). A helicopter trip along the Nile and the sensual sweep of the IMAX format override the film’s dramatic weaknesses. Directed by Bruce Neibaur.
