Most coveted pastry
Estelle's Patisserie's croixnuts
Shortly after its May debut, the Cronut—the lovechild of a croissant and doughnut made by the Dominique Ansel Bakery in Manhattan—created an absurd amount of hype. Now, Manhattanites still wait in line for hours for a taste of this specialty pastry, and it has spawned a bevy of imitators around the world (all of which are required to go by different names, because the term “Cronut” is trademarked). Sacramentans can get their fix with the croixnut, brought to you by Estelle's Patisserie and available only on Sunday mornings, starting at 9 a.m. Recent renditions include lemon blueberry, chocolate raspberry and banana cream; treat seekers would do well to arrive early, as the confections tend to sell out within hours. $5.25, 901 K Street, (916) 551-1500, www.estellespatisserie.com.
