There is something magical about the camera, from the first room-sized camera obscuras one would stand in to see the world projected upside-down on the wall, to the palm-sized digital ones many of us carry in our pockets to snap shots of cute pets and flash mobs.

Of course, these digital ones double as cellphones, modern man’s best friend. With the evolution in picture quality of these tiny cameras, plus various in-phone filters—like the Hipstermatic, err, that’s Hipstamatic vintage-style application—the mobile-phone carrying masses are able to capture things of beauty easily and frequently. Viewpoint Photographic Art Center is acknowledging this progress in technology with its Cell Phone Only Exhibition this month, and some of these shots might just surprise you.
