Mighty squash

Creating a sustainable garden doesn’t have to be boring. Think outside the garden box by growing giant pumpkins. Gigantic squash are great for, well, pumpkin carriages and, uh, winning money at Elk Grove’s Giant Pumpkin Festival in October. Cosumnes Community Services District will host a Giant Pumpkin Growers Forum Saturday, March 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wackford Community and Aquatic Complex, 9014 Bruceville Road in Elk Grove. Learn the art of growing giant pumpkins from guest speakers. There also will be a seed swap, raffle and catered lunch. Tickets are $18 in advance and $20 at the door.
