Me-yow
The CoolCat Gallery, now open at 918 24th Street, delivers A Taste of What’s to Come. It’s a feast of a grand-opening show, featuring the work of 18 artists. While there’s a style to suit every mood, “Corset,” the photo-surrealist C-print by Ashley Harris and Daniel Herrera, is guaranteed to elicit a double take. A woman sits with her naked back exposed—and a long, dangling burgundy ribbon partially threaded through her skin. It’s a little startling at first, a little CSI (sans the blood). But then you see the part that’s yet to be threaded, revealing her guts, and the flowers inside are reassuring. David Gough’s surrealistic acrylic “Transgression—Her Words Hung in the Air” mesmerizes with powerful female imagery, and symbolism including many moths, all posed in front of a stormy sky that adds to the mystique. Decipher it yourself until March 3. For more information call (916) 446-4430.
