Bay Area illustrator Owen Smith has been commercially viable for years. In addition to illustrating a children’s book, his work being featured on magazine covers more than a dozen times, his painting “The Forgotten Arm” for Aimee Mann’s album of the same name winning the 2006 Grammy for Best Recording Package and designing murals in New York, Smith is a senior adjunct professor at California College of the Arts in San Francisco. His 1940s-pulp-influenced images have gotten him far, and now they’ve come to Davis until May 23.
