MARRS gets something to laugh about

We got word this week from Brian Crall, managing director of the Sacramento Comedy Spot, that the local sketch-comedy venue will be leaving its current place on Broadway for new digs in the heart of night-life-loving Midtown. There had been whispers of a deal in the works for the Comedy Spot to take up space in the MARRS complex on 20th between J and K streets, and the deal has been worked out. “We may be open as early as October 1,” Crall told SN&R in an e-mail. Our prediction? More exposure for local sketch-comedy troupes and stand-up comedians, since the Sacramento Comedy Spot offers regular classes as well as opportunities to test comic skills with a live audience. What’s more, having a few laughs before—or after—heading out for a few drinks and some dancing in the neighborhood can only raise the live vibe in this action-oriented stretch of street. And, with the Lambda Players due to open their new theater at 21st and L in October, too, the increase in options for live local stage shows kicks into warp drive.
