Made of Honor
A freewheeling lothario (Patrick Dempsey) thinks maybe it’s time to settle down with his platonic best friend (Michelle Monaghan), only to find that she’s become engaged to a man from Scotland (Kevin McKidd)—and worst of all, she wants her buddy Romeo to be her “maid” of honor. The script (originally by Adam Sztykiel, reworked by Deborah Kaplan and Harry Elfont) is a gender-switch rehash of My Best Friend’s Wedding that makes little effort to be believable or to tie off its loose ends. Meanwhile, director Paul Weiland indulges an annoying penchant for lame and unfunny sight gags—perhaps a holdover from his experiences directing Rowan Atkinson’s Mr. Bean. It all hinges on the charms of the stars; either you’ll like them no matter how they’re ill-used, or you’ll wish they had a movie worthy of them.
