Republican pollster Frank Luntz is the smooth-talking evil genius behind the language used by right-wing spinmeisters to keep the public from knowing what they’re really doing. Yes, Luntz is the guy who suggested that it doesn’t matter what they actually do to the environment, as long as they say they’re protecting it. Thus, we have a “Healthy Forests” plan that saves forests by diverting fire-prevention funds to build roads for loggers, and a “Clear Skies” initiative that allows polluters to evade regulations—but hey, they both sound good. This site explains the roots of this misuse of the English language in a memo Luntz wrote and includes a “Luntz Speak” decoder ring to help the uninitiated figure out what the neocons are really saying while they dismantle environmental protections.
