Love is love

Eisner Award-nominated Ray Fawkes goes inside our outer differences to explore what our lives are like at their emotional core in a new graphic novel, The People Inside (Oni Press, $24.99). Everything including “traditional” hetero couples and an S/M partnership, love is love, and Fawkes draws it that way. He shows us love both true and false; broken hearts; forgiveness; grief; children, no kids and lost children; fame and obscurity; suicide, accidental death, murder and natural causes. Human existence is a narrative of our loves and desires, romantic and sexual. With simple black-and-white line drawings, as well as some overlap between the couples, Fawkes has built the world in the stories of 24 people.
