Loser

A relatively inoffensive and sometimes sweet entry in the girl-doesn’t-know-who’s-really-best-for-her-genre, and, surprisingly, a teen movie that doesn’t feel the need to one-up last year’s cinematic low point of that boy having sex with an American Pie. And speaking of Jason Biggs, here he plays a Fargo-hatted rube-savant attending a New York college on scholarship, where he becomes infatuated with American Beauty-gone-goth Mena Suvari, who is in turn infatuated with her preening, self-absorbed professor (Greg Kinnear). Nothing new to offer (we all know already how this one is going to end), but you could do worse for a date movie.
