Local laughs
Carlos Rodriguez started off telling jokes at age 16 at an open-mic night at Old Ironsides. Since then, he's launched into a career as a stand-up comic, actor and podcast host. This weekend, he headlines at Laughs Unlimited with another Sacramentan, Dennis Martinez, opening. Rodriguez's style mines personal anecdotes (growing up poor, traveling, scamming people), observational humor, self-deprecation and offbeat color. The man voted “Best person to make you laugh” by SN&R readers in 2013 also co-wrote and starred in the short film Control, and has toured the world performing stand-up. Oh yeah, he also “went to 7 high schools, grew up on welfare and battled addiction.” In other words, it's time to grab tickets and see a hard-working, homegrown comic at one of Sacto's premier comedy clubs. No joke. Friday, November 15, at 8 and 10:30 p.m.; Saturday, November 16, at 8 and 10:30 p.m.; Sunday, November 17, at 7 p.m.; $10-$20.
