Listen up, chili butt
Dad’s Kitchen on Freeport Boulevard has some of the best chili in town. In fact, they call it “damn good chili” on the menu. According to one of the cooks, it’s made of pork butt (technically, the shoulder) and marinated in beer and spices, then cooked for six hours to overnight, until it’s “beyond fall off the bone tender.” They serve up hearty portions with a sprinkling of onions and cheese, and that’s it. No beans or tomatoes. No corn or chips. Just spiced, delicious meat. And for $3.50 for a “small” portion, which is easily 2 cups, it’s also a damn-good deal ($1 gets you even more meat). Look for it hiding on the menu next to the mac ’n’ cheese, another fantastic choice.
