Lindsay Rickman
What inspired Lindsay Rickman’s spring 2008 clothing line?
“I hate to sound cheesy, but being in love,” said the designer, whose patterns and prints weave stripes, circles and checkers into colorful explosions that mimic the heart aflutter.
A seamstress since age 9, Rickman hasn’t left her inner child behind. “I make children’s clothes for grown-ups,” she said of the at once playful and purposeful line.
Rickman said she’s also inspired by the people around her, especially her best friend Amy Hemmens, with whom she shares a work space in the back room of Atelier boutique.
When Rickman isn’t stitching wild patterns together, she’s out dancing at Old Ironsides or listening to music like Eats Tapes and Art Lessing and the Flower Vato.
But the Sacramento native considers clothing design a full-time job. “I’m committed. I’m married to it.”
Catch Lindsay Rickman clothing on the runway at the Earth Week Fashion Show, part of Green Second Saturday on April 12, 7 p.m. at Bows and Arrows, 1712 L Street; (916) 444-3606.
