Lessons in acceptance
Remember the controversy a few years ago when Antelope schoolteacher Dana Rivers underwent sex-change surgery and began teaching classes as a woman? Some in the community called for her resignation, while her students largely supported her staying on. After a school board battle that drew national attention, Rivers was dismissed. She now works for a school district in the Bay Area, but she will return to Sacramento this Sunday to speak about her experiences as a transgender educator. The free lecture, hosted by Atheists and Other Freethinkers, begins at 1 p.m. Curtis Hall, Sierra 2, 2791 24th St. Call 920-7834 for more information.
