Left Behind® Worship
Ever wonder what happened to Charlie Peacock? The Yuba City native, a musician and studio whiz who once had a pretty decent following in these parts, moved to Tennessee over a decade ago to pursue a career in Nashville—the mecca, or perhaps more appropriately the Jerusalem, of the contemporary Christian music industry. Peacock co-wrote and produced two cuts on this collection, “inspired by the #1 best selling Left Behind® book series,” as the cover blurb puts it. On “The Only Light We Need,” Peacock sings a duet with dc Talk vocalist Michael Tait; it sounds like slightly poppier U2. “Forever and Ever,” sung by Jill Phillips, is slickly produced folk-pop à la Jewel or Sixpence None the Richer. The production values may be decidedly mainstream and the extended song endings are cool, but the lyrics leave no question as to whom the object of affection is; it’d be hard to sneak this onto pop radio.
