Learn to be civil

While time travel may not be possible yet, we’ve got the next best thing: a Civil War re-enactment, minus all the blood and gore—we hope! Sure, guests will witness re-enactments of battles, with both Yankees and Confederates getting maimed and killed, but we can guarantee that this family event won’t be too brutal or frightening. The event also will feature horse-drawn wagon rides, speeches by famous historical characters (think Abraham Lincoln and Harriet Tubman), musical entertainment and a fashion show featuring Civil War-era garb. Travel back in time Friday through Sunday at Gibson Ranch Park (8556 Gibson Ranch Road in Elverta). The battles unfold at noon and 7 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
