Nothing says romance quite like colorful skirts flying during flamenco dance-offs, a treacherous love affair and rolling those R’s. The 1983 Spanish version of Carmen sets the classic opera to flamenco dance. The pulsating and sensual film shows the treacherous obsession that weaves a man’s life between illusion and real life. The film even got Hollywood all hot and bothered and was nominated for an Academy Award and a Golden Globe in 1984. For those English-speaking wannabe Latin lovers, Carmen will be shown in Spanish with English subtitles—and it’s free. It is the second in a series of Spanish-language films part of La Raza Galería Posada’s exhibition What Is This Thing Called Love?
