Justin Bieber's Believe

Rated 2.0

Director Jon M. Chu follows the teenage pop phenomenon on his 2012 Believe tour, and that's about all there is to say for this by-the-numbers concert documentary. There's a writer credited—one Sarah Landman—and that sort of thing is always fishy in a movie supposedly made up entirely of performance footage and interviews, but really, who cares? Bieber's zillions of tweeny-bopper fans will get what they want—i.e., plenty of scenes of their idol strutting his scrawny stuff and pretending to believe he's just an ordinary guy. Those wondering what all the fuss is about will find less to chew on. Bieber seems to be nice enough—modestly talented, if a bit full of himself (and who can blame him under the circumstances?), writing and singing his generic pop ballads in a voice as thin as his moustache.
