Just say ‘Ni.’
The Ni Project
For those of you who haven&Rsquo;t yet caught a performance by the Ni Project, don&Rsquo;t miss this chance to see one of the city’s improvisational supergroups. Slightly hyperbolic perhaps, but how else do you describe this trio of Sacto collaborators extraordinaire—Ruben Reveles (MothSpyEros), Alex Jenkins (Kairos Quartet, Nada Brahma Music Ensemble) and the ubiquitous Ross Hammond? The Ni Project layers samples and synth-pads with improvised and often polyrhythmic guitar and percussion lines to create a tight, free-jazz-cum-electronica-by-way-of-Northern-India aural experience.
The Ni Project will play the True Love Coffeehouse, 2315 K Street, Monday at 8 p.m. The cover is on a sliding scale of $5 to $10 and, of course, it’s an all-ages show.
