Just Married

A young married couple (Ashton Kutcher and Brittany Murphy) split up after coming home from their European honeymoon; a long flashback shows us how things got so bad that they never wanted to see each other again. It truly is a honeymoon in hell, but it’s grating and annoying rather than funny. Kutcher and Murphy make an attractive couple, but their characters are unappealing under Shawn Levy’s sledgehammer direction. She’s a screamer, he’s a jerk, and we want to come home from this honeymoon and get away from them even more than they want to get rid of each other. The film seems to have been made mainly as an excuse to go on location to Venice and the French Alps, and at least the locations are nicely photographed (by Jonathan Brown, if you care).
