Just like Mom cooks it
I get the feeling Mason Jennings got into the biz with the intentions of being some sort of young Bob Dylan for a new generation, though I don’t think Dylan would have written so many love songs. In reality, Jennings is simply a beautiful voice that fights through very simply written lyrics. Since putting out his self-titled debut in 1997, he has released eight full-length solo albums. And he records every instrument himself, which gives his sound a home-cooked-meal-from-Mom sort of feel; even if it isn’t perfect, it is. It certainly makes sense that he is on Jack Johnson’s record label, since they have a very similar style. Mason Jennings plays next Thursday, September 9, 7:30 p.m. at Harlow’s, 2708 J Street; $20.
