Jesus’ Son
Denis Johnson’s short story collection about bad behavior, addiction and redemption has been faithfully adapted into a stream of tattered, dreamy vignettes. Billy Crudup stars as a wandering doper who narrates his own journey through mental and moral chaos to rediscovered compassion. He shares his heart and heroin with his girlfriend (Samantha Morton) in 1971 Iowa and his transcendental experiences and visions with an assortment of weird and wacky losers and survivors (played by Jack Black, Dennis Hopper, Denis Leary, Will Patton and Holly Hunter). Allison MacLean (Crush) directs this seductive, nonlinear gust of deadpan humor and lyrical imagery.
