Jam done right
Local four-piece Zuhg just released a new CD, Life, which was engineered by Joe Johnson at Pus Cavern, produced by the band and really highlights some of the area’s most talented musicians kicking major jam-band-with-touches-of-post-jazz ass. A song like the fourth track, “A Bit Redundant,” for example, is anything but: a simple, backyard-barbecue ballad with a saxophone solo by Bot that truly ups the improv ante. And then the next track, “One Up,” one-ups it. Love the pop of Matt Klee’s snare; dig Bryan Nichols’ very non-Sublime reggae vocalizations—this is jam done right. Can’t wait to see them live.
