Izabella: reppin’ Sac on the road
Sac natives Izabella return to the ol’ hometown this weekend for back-to-back shows at Marilyn’s on K, which is an eye-catcher because, honestly, how many local bands can hold fort at a club on consecutive nights and draw huge crowds for both? Answer: like, two. Here’s how Izabella does it: gentle, soulful ballads with catchy steel-guitar riffs that explore Americana-inspired rock melodies, like “Swimming in Your Rain,” from an older album; you can buy Drugs & Apple Pie, the band’s February ’09 release, online. But the key to Izabella’s success is simple: The band tours its ass off. Like fellow locals the Devil Makes Three, playing a ton of live shows generates a word of mouth that’s priceless, because nothing speaks to the awesomeness of a jam band like Izabella than a good 90 minutes spent grooving to its rock vibe. And so, yeah, this weekend’s your chance for a little firsthand experience. Don’t spend it in bed watching Hulu, bum.
